Vegan in Oahu

Aloha from Hawaii! Well, more accurately…the plane ride *back* from Hawaii ๐Ÿ˜‰ We have had a wonderful week here, and we have eaten so many delicious things. When we first arrived we ran into a bit of trouble finding some options for food on tourist occupied Waikiki. The next day we hit up Whole Foods to grab some “just-in-case-granola-bars” and ran into the best vegan local who helped us out with two long lists of veggie friendly places to try. We used that list as if it was our guiding map for the week, and ended up with our own list of favorites for the next time we visit. Here are a few spots to try for vegan food, or just health centric food on the island of Oahu.

Banan was one of our favorite finds, they have a few locations throughout Oahu but the one we went to happened to be in an alley right by our hotel. If you are in Waikiki it’s tucked away between the Moana Surfrider and The Outrigger hotels, turn left when you see the surfboards. Banan serves non-dairy banana soft serve in a few different forms. You can get aรงaรญ bowls and cups of soft serve with different toppings and additions and every flavor they offer is SO good. Would highly recommend the matcha or the amazon (pictured) but you really can’t go wrong. We had Banan almost every day for seven days total, it doesn’t get old.

What It Dough

What It Dough is a new-ish pizza place on the island that sets up in a parking lot but only on weekend nights. They sell out quick but its well worth the journey to get a pie. We went when they opened on Friday and liked it so much we went back Saturday (sold out!) and Sunday for more.

Beet Box Cafe

Beet box cafe is a must try if you are near the north shore of the island but I believe they have two locations total. We went to the one in Haleiwa and would have gone back if it wasn’t towards the end of our trip! I ordered the VBQ sandwich, my mom ordered the Thai tacos, and Cameron got the 3 little birds and they all were so good. We also would have tried every smoothie and juice on the menu as well if time had allowed. You really can’t go wrong visiting this one even as an omnivore.

Wow Wow Hawaiian Lemonade

This is one of those Instagram famous places thats actually delicious, I had seen the signature mason jars in many a picture. Not a specific vegan recommendation but a great one for anyone to visit. Highly recommend the Pina Colada lemonade.

Kahala Seaside Grill

We ended up at The Kahala Resort because my nephew had a dolphin excursion booked for the afternoon and at first glance I was a little worried about eating there. To my suprise the menu was amazing and had vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and whole 30 options available and emphasized.

I ordered the veggie burger and it was amazing, they included a portobello and it had a delicious vegan slaw. I was totally impressed by what was available and would totally consider this resort if you are nearby for dining. Plus, the nearby scenery is beautiful if you choose the poolside grill locale.

Maui Brewing

I wanted to throw this one in there because it SO came in handy while staying on Waikiki. Maui brewing is right on the main strip and has a vegan beet poke bowl that is well worth the tourist pumped price.

We found Puka’s attached to the Whole Foods in the Kahala mall and were so glad we did. Tons of vegan options and veggie sushi, this is also where we met the local that recommended anything you’ve read on this list. Definitely worth the trip since you can eat, and then shop next store for some snacks and fresh fruit. They also have a full bar and a great happy hour if you are there for dinner.

So there you have it, if you are in a bind on the island of Oahu and need a dairy free or meat free option hopefully you can hit up one of these spots! Whats your favorite foodie find in Hawaii?
